Sinopse:

Há alguns anos Gravelle (Boris Karloff), um famoso cantor lírico, está internado em um sanatório mas ninguém sabe quem ele é, pois sofre de amnésia. Repentinamente ele lê uma notícia no jornal que lhe provoca lembranças e então foge. Quando acontece um assassinato na ópera, ele é considerado o principal suspeito por Kelly (William Demarest), um detetive da polícia. Para ele o caso está fechado, mas Charlie Chan (Warner Oland) não está totalmente convencido da culpa de Gravelle e nem que ele seja realmente louco. Gradativamente Chan conclui que um grande mistério acontece nos bastidores da ópera.
